Closing Ceremony

All good things must come to an end and so shall the Bangamela. Our intent is to keep you engaged and entertained throughout the entire length of this program and the closing ceremony is no different. The theme of the closing ceremony will align with the undercurrent that the Bangamela nurtures- the depiction of Bengal and its rich cultural heritage in its full resplendent glory across the rural and the urban landscape; touching and invoking our strong earth bound connections in the form of a stylized dramatic presentation enriched and interlaced with musical and visual components.

Against the backdrop of our humdrum monotonous and mundane existence, every immigrant strives to find themselves. Our closing ceremony presentation follows an archetypical immigrant family living their nuclear existence out here, struggling to find their identity in this surreal rat race that we call life. The presentation engages us in a dialogue between the two worlds, submerging us in the warm radiance of our cultural milieu and rejuvenates our souls and walks us through a rediscovery of ourselves. The bridge is built across the two worlds - from our present to our past, from the Potomac to the Padma - we journey through a trance like world resounding with the haunting melody of folk music, baul- geeti, the lush green world of the villages to the modern day lives in our homeland.

The melody and the poets have the final say - and with the realization of who we are and a sense of belonging the pilgrimage is finally complete.
